TNNA 2012 Convention: Things Other Then Knitting

I know, it sounds strange that anyone attending the TNNA convention would think of anything else to do besides knitting. But, as we all know, even the most dedicated knitter must take a break once in a while. So, if you happen to find yourself with your needles down, here is a sampling of some of the cool things to do in Arizona:

1. Arizona Science Center

I consider this my first choice because it is within walking distance to the convention center. It is a great place to learn about the human body and the world we live in. Walk through the human stomach and discover what it sounds like to be digested and later pooped out. (Dude, its worth the price of admission just for that.) Don't just learn about weather, experience it on a stage that puts you right in the middle of a thunderstorm, hurricane, heatwaves and more.

2. Children's Museum of Phoenix

Even if you don't have kids, you can't help but fall in love with this place. Home of The Climber, the freaking largest treehouse/jungle gym you have ever seen! Climb it if you dare. (Even my fat ass climbed all the way to the top. It was awesome!) Don't believe me? Here's a picture of The Climber:



3. Heard Museum

This is the Southwest and Arizona is very proud of its Native American history. And so should you. Explore the arts and crafts- both old and new- and learn about the people who made them.

4. Phoenix Art Museum

I'll give you one good reason to go visit the art museum. Giorgio di Sant' Angelo's fashion pieces are on display. There are also great paintings, sculptures and photography from famous artist around the world. But really, you want to go to see some great fashion designs up close and hopefully steal some ideas for your own designs. Don't worry, I won't think any less of you.

There is just a wealth of great things to do in Arizona and I haven't even touched the surface. If you have more time in the valley you could visit the antique shops in Glendale or discover the red rocks of Sedona. Camp in the mountains of Flagstaff or be awe-struck by the beauty of the Grand Canyon. But I highly recommend that if you have the time, please do the following before you leave our wonderful town:

5. Mary Coyle

A phoenix institution that has been in the valley since 1951. No, it's not a museum, but a great place to eat. This is not just an ice cream parlor. Half of the people in Phoenix was practically raised on this stuff. Old fashion hand scooped ice cream in enough flavors to keep you coming back. imitated by many, surpassed by none. The pink jewel of the desert.
