Blue Moon Fiber Arts ® Rockin’ Sock Club
Call for Designs
Submission Theme: Please see the May 2014 inspiration board here.
Deadlines: Submissions are due by February 14, 2014 (Valentines Day!). Patterns and completed samples are due April 1, 2014.

Brief Description: Blue Moon Fiber Arts® Rockin’ Sock Club ships to members 6 times per year. Each shipment contains a skein of Blue Moon Fiber Arts® Socks that Rock® lightweight or Socks that Rock® medium weight and 2 patterns: one for a pair of socks and one for a non-sock accessory. The Rockin’ Sock Club has been going strong for 8 years. In 2014, for the first time, we are sourcing designs through an open call.
Yarn Support/Compensation/Rights: If your submission is accepted, we will provide yarn for the sample. We pay $350 for exclusive rights to your design for 1 year. After the period of exclusivity, rights revert to the designer, but Blue Moon reserves the right to continue to sell the pattern if we choose. Blue Moon retains ownership of the sample.
Editing and Testing: Technical editing, test knitting and photography are provided by Blue Moon.
Other info: We will select one sock design and one design for a non-sock accessory.
Submissions are accepted via e-mail only. No physical submissions will be considered.
Your submission should include a sketch of your idea or photo of a prototype, a photo or scan of your swatch and a written description of the project. It is not necessary to use our yarn for your swatch, but you should choose a sock weight yarn in a smooth texture to help us imagine how it will look in our yarn. A paragraph or two about your design experience is helpful if we haven’t worked with you before.
Please send your complete submission as a single PDF. Do not put essential information in the body of your e-mail; put it in the PDF. Feel free to submit more than one design idea, but please consolidate them into a single PDF. Be sure that each page of the PDF includes your name, telephone number and e-mail address.
Remember that your submission represents you as a designer. Please be clear, concise and professional. Your submission should stand alone – avoid web links or referral to other external sources.
Keep in mind that your project must use a single skein of sock yarn. Plan to use no more than 400 yds.
Patterns must be your own original work, and must not have been published either electronically or in print, for sale or offered for free.
Part of the fun of the club is the surprise of each shipment. If your design is accepted, we will ask that you keep it secret.
All submissions received by the deadline and complying with these guidelines will be considered. You will hear back from us, one way or the other, after our decisions are made – usually within 7 days of the submission deadline.
