I Am A Woman Whose Child Is Dead

As Flickr starts to fill up with this past weekend's events from Quiltcon, I am relishing in the awesome beauty of the quilts that were there. However, I was struck to the very core by one quilt in particular.

Self-Portrait, Year 2 (Beneath The Surface) by Penny Gold

This quilt struck me hard because it is what I feel almost every day. It is hard for someone who has not lost a child to know what that kind of grief feels like. Penny showed it in a very clear and stark way. Sometimes I feel like I need to walk around with a t-shirt or a tattoo across my forehead that says these words. It is an invisible grief that I would not even wish upon my worse enemy.

No parent should ever have to bury their own child.
