Excerpt from their submission call:

Dear Designers, 

I’m looking for ideas for the next issue of Interweave Knits. I’m looking for garments, accessories, items for the home, and items for the whole family. I’m excited by rich stitch patterns, classic shapes, innovative con- structions, and thoughtful yarn choices. A Knits design is one that challenges and excites the knitter, but for which the pattern is efficient and practi- cal. A Knits design toes the line between traditional and contemporary; it makes sense in the real world but harkens back to other times, other styles, other cultures. 

A Knits design is rich with interest, fun to knit, and smart. Each issue of Interweave Knits offers one cohesive collection of designs, organized around subtle themes. Consider the themes at bottom left as prompts; let them serve as a way to get thinking. More than anything, however, I want to see what you’re excited about. Please see the contributor guidelines for tips and specific requirements. I look forward to working with you!

I Submitted to Knitty

Well, I finally did it! At 2:00 am this morning, I submitted a design to Knitty for consideration in their Winter 2011 issue. It took a lot of guts- and a good pattern- for me to actually submit a design.

I checked over the application process about twenty times and reviewed my work over and over again. The hardest part was to actually will myself to press the 'send' button. Prayers were made, good vibes sent out to the universe, faux rabbit foot rubbed and anything else I could think of was done before I could bring myself to sending off my design. (I also considered dancing around a fire and offering up a sacrifice to the gods, but my father-in-law would have been very upset if I started the grill at two in the morning and burnt one of his good steaks).

Why such the big fuss over this submission? Well, its Knitty! I mean, so many designers got their start on Knitty. They have helped to launch numerous careers with almost overnight success for some people.

After my twitchy finger over ruled my fear and the 'send' button was pressed, it was both a relief as well as a new fear- Rejection. Yes, there is that chance that my design, like many others, will be rejected by Knitty. So, I came up with a plan B for myself in case that happens. I will of course, use my reject as a great excuse to have a drink and then since I have pictures and a pattern all ready to go, I'll just convert everything to PDF and post the pattern for sale on Ravelry.

I must say, it was very calming to receive that sweet autoreply message from Amy, (head honcho of Knitty), after submitting my design.

Swatching for Fun

I know the title of this blog sounds strange, but it's true. I knitted up a swatch just for fun!

I've been drawn to the pocket design on the tweed jacket featured in the Fall/Winter 2010 issue of Debbie Bliss knitting magazine. (Don't ask me why. I stopped questioning my own logic and thought process a long time ago.) So, I stash dived until I found some leftover yarns that I could use to knit up my own little version.

As you can tell, I went my own direction with the colors used and I really like the way it turned out. I'm thinking it would look even better with a brighter punk-rock-pink instead of the dusty rose pink that I used.

Naturally, as I was knitting this I thought of how I could translate this pattern for a sock design. Hmmmm. . .

Some Girls Like Chocolates, Others Like. . .

Some girls just drool over a box of chocolates. They savor every bite and keep their stash well hidden from others so that they can keep their guilty pleasure all to themselves. Well, omit the word 'chocolate' and replace it with the words, 'knitting magazine', and you got a pretty good idea of how I feel when I get a new magazine.

This knitting magazine by Debbie Bliss is my current box of chocolate. At $7.99 an issue it is truely a guilty pleasure for me. I've read the magazine about five times already and I still can't get enough of it! If there is still a copy avalible at your local book store, then buy it. You will not be disappointed.
