Quilting Doesn't Have to Cost an Arm And a Leg

As awesome as it looks, it doesn't take all of this to start quilting. (photo found here)

Many people think that you need to invest a lot of money in order to start quilting, or at the very least you need a sewing machine, rotary cutter and mat. Well, while those are nice things to have, you don't need any of it to start creating your first quilt. Here is a great blog post I found from 52 Quilters that explains it well:

52 Quilters: But isn't quilting expensive?!: I’ve heard lots of people say that one thing that holds them back from trying quilting is that they can’t afford it.   They don’...

Newbie Tuesdays: Where My Newbies At?

Your Name Here
(This entire paragraph is where I was going to write really cool stuff about you. I was going to go on and on about how cool you are and how you make awesome things. I was going to call you my BFF and consider nominating you for President. Then I would just ramble on gushing about your quilting project and how it is the best thing ever made and that everyone should be flocking to your door to take a look at it in person and to shake your hand in sincere gratitude that you would share such a wonderful project with the world. Yup, all that would go right here. This is where all the cool action happens.See what you missed out on?)

Today was to be the start of my new series, Newbie Tuesdays, where I would highlight the current work (completed or WIP) of a new quilter. But so far my email box has been empty of any takers.

I know you're out there. Please, don't be shy. We would love to see what you're up to. I promise, we won't judge. This series is meant to celebrate even the smallest effort made by those just getting their feet wet in the world of quilting.

So what do you say? Click on the Newbie Tuesdays link above and follow the simple directions. Next week your name and beautiful quilting project can be here for all the world to see and admire.

A New Weekly Post For New Quilters

So, as much as I like to talk about myself and share what I'm working on, I really enjoy seeing what other quilters are doing. I spend far too many hours of the day searching and reading through blogs of other quilters.

I especially love seeing quilts done by newbies. It's just something about seeing someone try a new technique or even just learn to sew a straight line for the first time. This lead me to brainstorming ideas of how I could showcase the works of new quilters. Sort of like an online 'Kudos for you!', sort of thing. This is what I came up with:

Newbie Tuesdays

Every Tuesday I will feature the work of a new quilter. (I'll define a new quilter as someone who has been quilting for less then two years). It will be like a little classroom show and tell, with a few pictures and a little background about the project. I think this would be a great way to show some love and give encouragement to new quilters out there. What do you think?

I'll work on make a separate page this week for Newbie Tuesdays, explaining how to apply to have your quilting project featured.
